The restoration of the 8,750 hectare Wetlands is a project of national significance, scientific and is the largest wetland restoration project in the Southern Hemisphere.  The Reserve has 3800Ha of wetlands surrounded by 4,950Ha of red gum and box grassy woodlands, which includes 1850Ha of grazing land.

The Restoration and monitoring of Winton Wetlands aims to enhance the natural regeneration of the site through research and practical implementation plans.

In 2014 the Committee appointed the Environmental Strategy Advisory Panel. Established to provide advice to the CoM on the best ways to address scientific, technical and research challenges and opportunities in the areas of ecological restoration, conservation and monitoring, land management and natural resource management, education and research strategy and RAMSAR listing.
