The restoration of the 8,750 hectare Wetlands is a project of national scientific significance and is the largest wetland restoration project in the Southern Hemisphere.

The renewal of the Winton Wetlands is a restoration project unlike any other with few projects of this magnitude having been attempted internationally. It covers not only the restoration of the natural environment but it renews its own social landscape coming through many changes affecting families of the region over many decades.

Natural resource management goals aim to improve water quality and help native plants and animals thrive within the Wetlands. These goals aid the environmental renewal to attempt to restore the ecosystem to lead the way for the ecotourism components.
